         Benötigt wird ein Gerät, mit dem biomedizinische Proben in Kunstharz eingebettet und in einer Dicke von ca. 60nm in Serie geschnitten werden können. Ein geeignetes Gerät soll bis zu 1000 Schnitte automatisiert aufnehmen und auf ein stabiles Trägermaterial aufbringen. Die Schnitte sollen aufbewahrbar und wiederholt mittels Rasterelektronenmikroskop auswertbar sein um 3D-Rekonstruktionen herstellen zu können. Mit einem Rasterelektronenmikroskop sollen Aufnahmen mit Auflösung von ca. 2nm innerhalb dieser Schnittserien gemacht werden. Für die Herstellung wird somit ein Ultramikrotom mit integriertem Schnittsammler, sowie ein geeignetes Rasterelektronenmikroskop benötigt. Der Schnittsammler muss die Herstellung von Schnittserien und deren Aufbewahrung und wiederholbare Auswertung ermöglichen. Das Rasterelektronenmikroskop muss über variablen Druck verfügen, um auch elektrisch nichtleitende Präparate begutachten zu können und mit einem geeigneten Rückstreuelektronendetektor ausgestattet sein, um Aufnahmen mit Ordnungszahl zu ermöglichen. Darüber hinaus ist für das Rasterelektronenmikroskop eine Software zur Aufnahme von Bildern notwendig, bei der die Bilder aus verschiedenen Größenbereichen korreliert werden können.
